Wings + BBQ

MK Wings

For game day eats, few things are better than a pile of wings and a platter of BBQ pork, ribs and brisket for folks to dive into between plays (unless you’re a vegetarian or vegan, in which case we have a few options for you, too 🌱).

For the ‘que, we love our Huntsville outpost of Birmingham-based Full Moon Barbecue, Boarhog’s, Ted’s Bar‑B‑Q and Kar’s Char for Texas-style.

And it’s hard not to mention Big Bob Gibson over in Decatur in this context, especially since it’s been in the same sentence with “NFL” so much since a recent visit from retired center Jason Kelce. And on the wings tip in the River City, try Just Wing It.

But the big winner on the wings front in North Alabama is Cricket’s in Madison, which just made Southern Living’s list of the top 20 spots for wings throughout the South. We’ve heard great things about MK Wings, too.

Pizza

Pizza is the perfect party food… okay, maybe the perfect food IMHO. It’s so hard to pick who’s got the best local pies, because it truly depends on the style you prefer.

Sam & Greg’s Pizzeria is consistently highly rated by locals and known for its selection of creative toppings. Always a delicious, classic choice is Big Ed’s Pizza. We’re also fans of Veloce, Earth and Stone and Mozza, just to name a few.

Tacos + Tex-Mex

Tacos add variety and easy eating to game day spreads. Depending on the restaurant you choose, you can preorder them to suit your serving style—a variety of proteins with fixings on the side or preassembled entirely.

Popular local options for gourmet tacos with many creative fixings include Agave & Rye and Lola’s. If you prefer a traditional street-taco style, try Taqueria El Cazador, Nacho’s Mexican Food Truck or Taqueria Las Adelitas.

Sandwiches, sides + sweets

You can order sides like loaded fries, mac and cheese and other comforting dishes from many of the spots above (don’t BBQ joints have the best sides?).

Then round out your spread with breads—piled high with fixings to make sandwiches or baked goods as sweet treats to finish the meal. Buy fresh bread for your sandwich platter at Edgar’s or Mason Dixon Bakery & Bistro, where you can also pick up scones, cupcakes, cakes, cookies and more for dessert. We can also vouch for the catered trays from The Moon Bakeshop for sweet and savory goodies!

🧀 Pro tip: DYK you can buy large and small premade cheese balls at Edgar’s? Their packaged goods sections are made for occasions like this!

If you haven’t the time to be a sandwich artist, order your go-tos, to-go from Dallas Mill Deli, Good Company Café, Stanlieo’s or The Local.
