The Huntsville Police Department is seeking re-accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, and to do so, the department needs feedback from the public.

Here’s how it works:

Residents can share their comments through CALEA’s online public comment portal, which is designed to gather input on HPD’s delivery of public safety services, community engagement, professionalism and overall performance.

Comments may include commendations as well as concerns and will be reviewed directly by CALEA as part of its evaluation, and will not be filtered by the Huntsville PD.

“HPD strives to meet and exceed CALEA’s accreditation standards. Through this process, our department has strengthened its training, improved policies and implemented practices that allow us to better protect and serve the people of Huntsville.”

Chief Kirk Giles, Huntsville Police Department

HPD first earned CALEA accreditation in 1996 and has successfully maintained this status since then. Accreditation is considered the gold standard in public safety, signifying that an agency consistently meets rigorous, nationally recognized best practices in policing.
