A 2-day music festival set for September at John Hunt Park now has an official name. Huntsville music officer Matt Mandrella announced this week that the high-profile festival will be known as the South Star Music Festival.

The lineup for the festival will be announced later this month.

The South Star Music Festival

The South Star Music Festival is set for Sept. 28-29 at John Hunt Park. The festival was announced last year but without a definite date or format.

Representatives from C3 Presents — one of the largest music festival producers in the country — confirmed last month they are planning the two-day, multi-genre festival.

C3’s portfolio includes the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas and Lollapalooza in Chicago and its seven international editions — drawing a combined 2 million attendees annually.

The festival is expected to book more than 20 acts for the whole weekend.

A huge event for Huntsville

Mandrella said the festival, in addition to bringing revenue to the city, will enhance the city’s music scene and reputation as a music destination.

He said the musical diversity will enhance Huntsville’s goal of becoming a premier music city.

“This a win-win for Huntsville as well as the region. This is a great opportunity to work with a world-class festival producer to bring a world-class event to a world-class park. We can’t wait to see the lineup.”
