The City of Madison celebrated the opening of the full interchange along I-565 Friday at the Town Madison Development.

The opening of the additional ramps — including the bridges over I-565 — will facilitate movement of traffic on and off I-565 Westbound.

Traffic has been a hot-button issue for several years now in the Huntsville metro, especially as Madison continues to grow at a rapid rate. The added traffic on I-565 over the years has necessitated the construction of the new interchange.

The overpass provides a critical connection to Town Madison and Toyota Field, an area that is home to vibrant businesses, housing developments, and other work/play/live opportunities. The project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and support the continued growth and development of the region.

“This project represents a significant investment in the City of Madison and the surrounding area. We would like to thank ALDOT for their support in bringing the project to completion. By providing this interchange along I-565, we have increased local access, decreased congestion, supported to local economy, and provided citizens with a safer more connected community.”

Mayor Paul Finley

The new interchange also aims to ease the flow of traffic around Redstone Arsenal, ensuring smoother commutes for both military personnel and civilian workers, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the area’s transportation network.

For now, motorists are advised to proceed with caution in the area, as some minor work — surface paving along I-565 and final striping — still remains.
