ActiveFlex Designer – Contract

Position Summary Information

Duties
This is a grant-funded position. The ActiveFlex Designer will be responsible for assisting the university in the design and development of courses chosen to be delivered in an ActiveFlex modality. The ActiveFlex Designer will collaborate with designated ActiveFlex faculty and ATLIS design and development staff to create active learning experiences for ActiveFlex courses along with any training and development activities associated with effectively running ActiveFlex courses. Additionally, this person will be responsible for aiding and assisting in research activities associated with the ActiveFlex courses that are developed and delivered.

Essential Functions:

  • Course Planning and Development:
    • Works with ATLIS to create and complete a plan for the development and delivery of ActiveFlex courses specified by the RPED grant.
    • Assists in creating a development schedule for specified ActiveFlex courses.
    • Monitors and documents development progress.
    • Schedules resources and services needed for design, development, and delivery of ActiveFlex courses.
  • Course Content Design and Development:
    • Designs ActiveFlex course modules and experiences under the direction of the ATLIS Director, to be delivered through the University’s learning management system.
    • Creates new and engaging products and experiences for ActiveFlex courses individually or in collaboration with ATLIS design and development teams.
    • Develops graphics, videos, and other digital assets for ActiveFlex courses, multimedia, print, and web-based products.
  • Documentation and Process Sharing:
    • Assists the grant PI in documenting steps for designing and developing ActiveFlex courses.
    • Works with the PI and ATLIS team to create design and development templates and guides applicable to other ActiveFlex courses.
  • Other Duties:
    • Supports other activities related to the RPED grant.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or within one year of completion, in instructional design, a technology-related field, or an education-related field from a regionally accredited institution; OR 3+ years of experience teaching in a K-12 or higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience creating content in an LMS system.
  • Strong computer and technology-related skills.
  • Successful creation and delivery of training sessions/materials.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics to various audiences.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design or a related field; OR advanced experience in instructional design and development; OR 5+ years of experience teaching in a K-12 or higher education environment.
  • Experience with Canvas Learning Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in online course materials development.
  • Expertise in graphic design and multimedia software (e.g., Photoshop, Camtasia).
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
