Job Statement

This position is responsible for modeling new residential homes using REM/rate software, coordinating with Huntsville Utilities’ third‑party provider (Home Energy Concepts Corporation), supervising Energy Technician field inspections and data entry, conducting random quality assurance assessments, and communicating with builders and developers. The role also includes performing field inspections to ensure compliance with the State of Alabama Energy Code.

Essential Duties

  • Models new residential dwellings using REM/rate software to ensure a compliant HERS Index per the State of Alabama Energy Code.
  • Communicates with area builders, developers, and construction managers regarding inspection status, technical questions, and required information.
  • Addresses concerns or issues related to inspections, equipment failures, or builder inquiries.
  • Coordinates daily workload and route scheduling with Energy Leads.
  • Works with Home Energy Concepts Corporation to expedite reports when needed.
  • Communicates with local inspection departments to ensure no homes miss their closing dates.
  • Trains and supports new hires in the field and performs random quality assurance checks.
  • Maintains working knowledge of New Homes Application Software and reports issues to the Technical Services Department.
  • Troubleshoots performance testing equipment as needed.
  • Performs both office and field tasks to support smooth operations during high‑demand periods or employee absences.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education / Training / Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must pass the Field Rater Certification test within eighteen months (maximum of two attempts from hire date).

Experience / Skills

  • Residential home construction and/or HVAC installation experience preferred.

Equipment

  • REM/rate modeling software
  • HVAC measurement devices, including:
    • Velometers
    • Amp probes
    • Blower door equipment
    • Duct blaster test equipment
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to crawl into attics and foundation crawl spaces for inspections
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders to seal supply registers for new home testing
  • Performs some sedentary office work; some tasks require repetitive motion over extended periods

Other

  • This is a safety‑sensitive position; employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
