Job Statement
Works in both field and office environments assisting Engineering Aide IIs, Engineering Aide IIIs, and other department personnel. Provides support to Engineering Aide IIs in performing designated duties and contributes to engineering design, field data collection, and customer coordination.
Essential Duties
- Assists Engineering Aides and department personnel with staking, obtaining easement descriptions and rights‑of‑way, and designing and processing work orders.
- Collects field data and translates plant conditions into accurate records for engineering and operational use.
- Serves as backup to other staff as needed.
- Communicates with customers and developers; performs on‑site investigations to determine required facilities for adequate service.
- Prepares designs for customer development and system improvements, including equipment location and easement acquisition.
- Uses software such as MicroStation, Bentley, GTech, and SAP to develop drawings, estimates, material sheets, and documentation for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Prepares ATC, fees, credits, and quotes in accordance with company policies.
- Creates maps for tree‑trimming surveys, inspections, and other projects.
- Performs field surveys for work order preparation, data collection, inspections, and related tasks.
- Coordinates installation of utility infrastructure with project managers and contractors, resolving conflicts as they arise.
Additional Duties
- Coordinates with other utilities and departments to avoid conflicts with existing or proposed facilities.
- Maintains working knowledge of construction standards, code requirements, and safety practices.
- Assists customers with service requests and related issues.
- Supports emergency restoration efforts as required.
- Promotes a positive company image through strong customer relations and prompt service.
- Operates a non‑commercial company vehicle as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education / Training / Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- AS degree in a related technical discipline preferred.
Experience / Skills
- Engineering drawing experience preferred.
- CAD experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Windows applications, including MS Office Suite.
- Prior experience in engineering design, underground locating, surveying, construction, fiber, and/or utilities preferred.

Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions
- May require working in inclement weather.
- Ability to carry items or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

- Climbing and entering water tanks for inspection purposes.

- Strong communication and record‑keeping skills required.
- Must possess math skills necessary for load calculations and other department‑specific calculations.
- Work may occur near high voltage (Electric), blowing gas (Gas), or high‑pressure water (Water).
- This is a safety‑sensitive position; employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
