Job Overview

This full-time, non-exempt position in the Fleet Maintenance Department is responsible for performing diagnostic, preventative, and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. This role includes working on gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, trailers, heavy equipment, and utility fleet vehicles. It’s ideal for a hands-on technician with automotive, electrical, and mechanical repair experience who can work independently or as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $23.44 – $29.66
  • Status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime)

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues using diagnostic software and tools
  • Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance according to manufacturer specifications
  • Service and repair a variety of equipment including:
    • Cars, trucks, backhoes, trenchers, aerial units, digger derricks, trailers, forklifts, cranes, and small engines
  • Conduct unscheduled repairs on:
    • Transmissions, differentials, powertrains, brakes, hydraulics, and air systems
  • Perform bodywork, welding, and custom fabrication
  • Respond to minor road calls and emergency repairs
  • Assist Crew Leader or Fleet Specialist as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of tools and workspaces
  • Use manuals, diagrams, and illustrations for accurate repairs
  • Follow company policies, safety standards, and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs)
  • Climbing to heights over 50 feet
  • Occasional work in bucket trucks and elevated positions
  • Manual dexterity and physical stamina required

Education and Training Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Preferred: Training in diesel engines, hydraulics, air brakes, transmissions, electrical systems, and computer diagnostics

Experience

  • Minimum of one year in a related field required
  • Completion of a two-year accredited technical program in automotive repair may substitute for the experience requirement

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • CDL A required or must be eligible to obtain within six months (or within six months of turning legal age, if applicable)
  • Must be available for on-call, night, weekend, and shift work (first or second shift)
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to random drug and alcohol testing
