Job Statement

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) supports the execution of Huntsville Utilities’ human resources initiatives by providing foundational HR guidance and aligning day‑to‑day HR practices with organizational goals. This role focuses on employee support, HR operations, and the development of core HR competencies while gaining exposure to strategic HR functions. The HRBP plays an essential role in delivering high‑quality service to employees and promoting a positive and productive workplace culture.


Essential Duties

  • Collects and analyzes HR data to support decision‑making.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains HR dashboards and reports to track key HR metrics.
  • Identifies trends and areas for improvement based on data analysis.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Addresses and resolves basic employee relations issues with guidance from senior HR staff.
  • Assists with talent acquisition, including job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
  • Supports new hire orientation and the onboarding process.
  • Maintains accurate employee records in HRIS and eFile systems.
  • Generates and distributes HR reports as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with labor laws, internal procedures, and organizational policies.

Additional Duties

  • Supports HR audits and policy reviews.
  • Assists with training coordination, employee development initiatives, and annual performance appraisals.
  • Provides support across HR functions, including benefits, compensation, and performance management, as assigned by the HR Director.
  • Enhances job satisfaction by addressing employee concerns, coordinating engagement activities, and supporting employee experience programs.
  • Assists employees with HR‑related inquiries such as leave, accommodations, education assistance, out‑processing, and internal/external information requests.
  • Rotates through HR functional areas to broaden organizational understanding and provide cross‑departmental support.
  • Rotates between business units as needed.

Job Requirements

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Human Resources or Business Administration preferred.
  • SHRM‑CP, PHR, or sHRBP certification highly preferred.

Experience / Skills

  • Minimum of three (3) years of direct Human Resources experience.
  • Experience in full lifecycle recruiting, benefits, compensation, learning and development, or employee relations is a plus.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, including experience interpreting HR data for business use.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with HRIS/ERP systems required.
  • Experience with SuccessFactors and Power BI preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Must be adaptable and able to pivot quickly as needs change.
