Job Statement
Installs, tests, and maintains electric meters. Maintains inventory and accurate records of all work performed.
Essential Duties
- Reads, tests, installs, and maintains all types of electric meters in both field and shop environments.
- Reads gas and water meters as required.
- Installs and removes meters, recorders, and instrument transformers.
- Inspects, tests, and maintains instrument transformer metering in the shop and in the field.
- Constructs and maintains field instrument transformer metering installations.
- Maintains accurate maintenance and inventory records for meters, recorders, and instrument transformers.
- Investigates potential meter problems and customer complaints, determining causes and appropriate corrective actions, including repair or replacement.
- Interacts with customers, contractors, and utility personnel regarding metering and service issues.
- Issues meters to personnel responsible for installation.
Additional Duties
- Assists in on‑the‑job training of less experienced meter technicians.
- Terminates service conductors at transformers for new services greater than 600 amps.
- Works cut orders, set orders, and rem orders on services greater than 400 amps, including CT services and bolt‑in meter bases.
- Responds to trouble calls on services over 400 amps as required.
- Promotes safety by using proper tools, equipment, and procedures and encouraging others to do the same.
- Performs work consistent with codes, safety requirements, HU policies, and good business practices.
- Promotes customer goodwill through professional interactions.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education / Training / Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an applicable Apprenticeship program or relevant higher‑level education from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of the TVPPA Electrical Metering Course (or approved equivalent).
Experience / Skills
- Minimum three years of experience in metering or operations within an Electric Meter Shop.

- Manual dexterity and strenuous outdoor activity in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
- Prolonged standing

- Subject to on‑call and emergency duty
- Valid driver’s license required
- Class A CDL required
- This is a safety‑sensitive position; employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing
