Job Statement

Installs, tests, and maintains electric meters. Maintains inventory and accurate records of all work performed.

Essential Duties

  • Reads, tests, installs, and maintains all types of electric meters in both field and shop environments.
  • Reads gas and water meters as required.
  • Installs and removes meters, recorders, and instrument transformers.
  • Inspects, tests, and maintains instrument transformer metering in the shop and in the field.
  • Constructs and maintains field instrument transformer metering installations.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance and inventory records for meters, recorders, and instrument transformers.
  • Investigates potential meter problems and customer complaints, determining causes and appropriate corrective actions, including repair or replacement.
  • Interacts with customers, contractors, and utility personnel regarding metering and service issues.
  • Issues meters to personnel responsible for installation.

Additional Duties

  • Assists in on‑the‑job training of less experienced meter technicians.
  • Terminates service conductors at transformers for new services greater than 600 amps.
  • Works cut orders, set orders, and rem orders on services greater than 400 amps, including CT services and bolt‑in meter bases.
  • Responds to trouble calls on services over 400 amps as required.
  • Promotes safety by using proper tools, equipment, and procedures and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Performs work consistent with codes, safety requirements, HU policies, and good business practices.
  • Promotes customer goodwill through professional interactions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education / Training / Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an applicable Apprenticeship program or relevant higher‑level education from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of the TVPPA Electrical Metering Course (or approved equivalent).

Experience / Skills

  • Minimum three years of experience in metering or operations within an Electric Meter Shop.

Physical Demands / Environmental Conditions

  • Manual dexterity and strenuous outdoor activity in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
  • Prolonged standing

  • Ability to distinguish similar colors and shades

Other

  • Subject to on‑call and emergency duty
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Class A CDL required
  • This is a safety‑sensitive position; employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing
