From massive cultural memes to local inside jokes we’re covering all the Huntsville memes you should know about.

Antoine Dodson

Antoine Dodson is a Huntsville local who gave a news interview that went insanely and suddenly viral in 2010.

With his sudden celebrity status, Dodson made several television appearances and developed a brief music career.

A song made from his interview titled “Bed Intruder” was posted on YouTube and gained more views than the original. The song was so popular it landed on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and earned Dodson enough money to move his family into a new house.

The song also inspired a plethora of covers, including a pop-punk version with Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams on vocals.

Dodson also underwent several other business ventures, including the release of several songs, an officially licensed “bed intruder” Halloween costume and a beer collaboration with Straight to Ale called Run N’ Tell That.

Grumpy Cat was a cat that went viral in late 2012 and became one of the largest and most well-known memes ever.

Now a staple of the internet, Grumpy Cat spawned countless pop culture references, merchandise, television appearances, and more. The cat (whose actual name is Tardar Sauce) was a worldwide phenomenon.

Huntsville got in on the Grumpy Cat fever with the “Grumpy Cat Art Project”, where artists throughout Lowe Mill created works inspired by the meme which were later auctioned off.

Egg Beater Jesus is the local name for the mosaic mural on the outside of First Baptist Church on Governors Drive.

The mural’s actual name is Cosmic Jesus, but most people know it by its ‘egg beater’ persona due to the artistic styling of his legs and robes resembling an egg beater.

The 47 by 154-foot mosaic is made up of over 1.4 million individual glass tiles and weighs over 6 tons. It’s been a Huntsville meme and landmark since the 1970s and finished a recent restoration in 2022.

The church has said in the past that they’ve embraced the name and learned to accept its place within Huntsville.

Fun fact: if you type Egg Beater Jesus into Google Maps, it will redirect you to First Baptist Church.
