La Pinta replica now on display in Huntsville
Reading time: 2 minutes
A replica of the Christopher Columbus expedition ship La Pinta has made its way down the Tennessee River and is currently docked at Ditto Landing. Beginning this weekend, it will be open to the public for exploring.
This “floating museum” will be available for exploring Sept. 8-17. Here’s more info:
La Pinta is a floating museum for all ages
La Pinta arrived at Ditto Landing Wednesday afternoon, according to the Facebook post by Nina & Pinta Caravels. This is a unique opportunity for Huntsville folks to explore this replica ship and view this museum on the water, so to speak.
The ship was built by 8th Generation Portuguese Shipwrights using the same methods and hand tools that were used to build the original in the 15th Century. The Pinta was the first ship to sight land on the famous voyage of discovery on October 12, 1492.
How you can see La Pinta
The general public is invited to explore the Pinta for self guided tours from Sept. 8-17 from 9AM-5PM daily. No reservations are necessary. Tickets are purchased at the ship and prices are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors/military (65+), and $6 for children (5-16). Children 4 and under are free.
Teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30 minute guided tour with a crew member during the weekdays should call 251-293-4193 or email ninapintatour@gmail.com for any inquires.
