Land Trust to construct new pollinator garden at Harvest Square
The Land Trust of North Alabama is currently developing a pollinator garden at Harvest Square Nature Preserve. And this weekend, volunteers will be on hand to help construct this garden.
The volunteer event coincides with National Public Lands Day Saturday. Here’s what’s happening:
Pollinator garden at Harvest Square
Thanks to support funding from Toyota and the National Environmental Education Foundation, Harvest Square Nature Preserve will have a new native wildflower garden with the goal of providing food and habitat for pollinators (birds, butterflies, bees, and other insects).
This space will also be used to engage the community through a variety of education programs, sharing the importance of fostering a healthy pollinator population.
Saturday, volunteers will construct wooden raised garden beds, fill them with soil, plant a selection of native plants and install educational signage.
The volunteer event takes place from 9AM to 12PM.
The pollinator garden is part of a 3-year, $150,000 improvement project focused on improving accessibility throughout the trails, enhancing the natural environment and providing unique educational features and programs.
National Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event for public lands.
Created and coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), NPLD is held annually on the fourth Saturday in September and brings out thousands of volunteers to help enhance parks, forests, and waterways around the country.
