After months of fundraising, the Land Trust of North Alabama has raised enough money to move forward with the Tollgate Greenway project at Monte Sano.

The Land Trust raised $500,000, and with an additional $500,000 coming from the City of Huntsville, the project can now come to fruition.

The project includes a paved, multi-use greenway that will provide pedestrians and bikers a safe, scenic route to travel while also offering access to nature for people who cannot utilize the Land Trust’s natural trails.

The project aims to:

  • Expand outdoor access for hikers, walkers, cyclists, and those with mobility limitations
  • Provide cyclists a safe route on the mountain
  • Improve off-road parking for safer traffic flow
  • Create education opportunities that highlight the history and ecology of the area
  • Establish a seamless, paved connection from Bankhead Trailhead to Monte Sano State Park
