As many Huntsville commuters are aware, the median on I-565 from Exit 7 to Bradford Creek (between Exits 8 and 9) has been walled off by concrete barriers since the fall of 2024. This is due to a $29M road-widening project in that area.

The Alabama Department of Transportation announced on August 11 that the next stage of the project will start soon, which means there will be some single-lane closures as the contractor moves the concrete barriers to other sections of I-565.

In addition to the lane closures, the current rightward lane shift along the eastbound roadway will change to a leftward lane shift, which is something to keep in mind as you drive.

Eastbound barriers will be relocated on the evenings of Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13. Westbound barriers will then be relocated on the evenings of Sunday, August 16, and Monday, August 17, with the possibility of work continuing on Tuesday, August 18.

Single-lane closures will take place on those dates, with state troopers stationed in the area to assist with traffic control.

Work is scheduled to start at 7PM and finish by 6AM the following day, meaning many Huntsville drivers will not be affected.
