Leadership Greater Huntsville has tapped a new chief operating officer, choosing former Madison City Schools superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols for the newly created position.
Nichols recently retired from MCS, making the announcement in April.

Nichols takes over as new COO for Leadership Greater Huntsville
In this newly created position, Nichols will oversee LGH’s day-to-day operations, human resources systems and organizational infrastructure, partnering closely with CEO Christie Finley to advance the organization’s long-term strategic priorities.
Nichols holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from The University of Alabama and has led school systems in both Decatur and Madison, managing budgets exceeding $180 million and overseeing more than $100 million in construction projects.
He is a graduate of LGH’s Flagship Class 35 and a Class XXIV graduate of Leadership Alabama.
His civic engagement has included:
- Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Board
- Redstone Arsenal Community Advisory Board
- Madison Chamber of Commerce
- Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Foundation
- Rotary Paul Harris Fellow
