New data shows Limestone County is Alabama’s fastest-growing county

While the Huntsville metro continues to experience tremendous growth, the U.S. Census Bureau revealed that Limestone County was Alabama’s fastest-growing county in 2024.

Limestone County continues to grow

The Huntsville metro area, including the rapidly expanding Madison and Limestone counties, ranked as the 15th fastest-growing metro in the nation.
Here are some more findings from the report:
- The county experienced a population increase of 4,139 residents from July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024, a 3.6% growth rate.
- Over the past four years, the county has seen an impressive population surge of 15,381 new residents, marking a 14.9% increase since 2020.
- Limestone ranks as the tenth most populous county in Alabama.
Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Pammie Jimmar emphasized the role of the local business community in attracting new residents.
