Summer is the season of live music, and if you’re anything like me, you are probably itching to find bands that are not only local, but also have a sound you genuinely enjoy. My personal favorite is alternative rock, and there are quite a few bands in Huntsville to dive into.

We asked our readers for band recommendations, and you guys did not disappoint! To make your search easier, we are breaking up your recommendations by genre, so you can find your niche in town — here’s mine😉

New Atomic

• About: New Atomic is an alternative rock band that has been present in the Huntsville music scene since 2020. Their sound has an early 2000’s feel, nostalgic of classic bands like My Chemical Romance or Neck Deep. If you like alternative rock or pop punk, this one’s for you.
• Releases: Their live shows consist of a mix of covers and originals. They have released two singles, one EP and one album since 2024. Here’s my recommendation.

The Silver Silos

• About: A self-proclaimed “Y’allternative” band, the Silver Silos are a blend of country, alternative, and rock. Their lighthearted music full of acoustics and southern twang feels like the dog days of summer in Alabama.
• Releases: The Silver Silos may have the biggest discography on the list, with six original singles and one album. Here’s my recommendation.

• About: Bloom After Fall is a Decatur-based alternative band, with a sound that blends the “warmth of old sounds” with the “edge of modern alternative.” Their sound is smooth, fresh, and groovy.

• About: The Wellsharks are an indie alternative rock band based in North Alabama. Their sound has a heavy guitar presence, with synth pop sounds and emo influence.
