Music legends coming to Huntsville
Lynyrd Skynyrd has long been embraced as one of the premier bands of southern rock, with memorable rock anthems like “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” Tuesday’s Gone” and other classics. The band has continued to tour despite the untimely deaths founding member Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and back-up singer Cassie Gaines in a plane crash Oct. 19, 1977.
The band reformed 10 years after the deadly plane crash, led by Van Zant’s brother Johnny Van Zant.
ZZ Top, formed in Houston in the late 60s, also experienced a death in the band, as founding member and bassist Dusty Hill died in 2021. ZZ Top released 15 albums between 1971 and 2012, with six of those albums earning platinum status with more than 1 million sales.
