Madison County School System to hold e-learning day ‘to slow the spread of illness’
Reading time: 2 minutes

Due to high rates of illness among students (including flu), the Madison County School System will use Friday as an e-learning day across all schools in the system.
The Madison County School System includes 30 schools countywide.
“This decision prioritizes the well-being of our students and staff and allows time for recovery and additional facility sanitation to help slow the spread of illness.”
Official statement from Madison County Schools
Alabama has been one of the states with high flu activity levels over the last several weeks, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Both the CDC and Alabama Department of Public Health have long lists of best practices to avoid catching and spreading any viruses including:
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Routinely clean frequently used surfaces and objects like countertops and door knobs
- Stay home if you are sick
