Madison’s municipal election coming up—here’s what to know

Madison’s municipal election is set for Aug. 26, and now that the deadline to qualify as a candidate has passed, the field is now final.

This election includes the mayor and Madison City Council seats (although four of the council seats have unopposed candidates).

Polls will be open citywide from 7AM to 7PM, and all eligible residents are encouraged to participate in this important local election.

Regardless of the outcome, Madison will end up with a new mayor after these elections, as Mayor Paul Finley will not be on the ballot this time around.

Some important dates to remember for this year’s election:

  • July 27: Last day to establish residency to vote in municipal general election
  • Aug. 11: Last day to register to vote
  • Aug. 19: Last day to receive an application for regular absentee ballot by mail
  • Aug. 21: Last day for a voter to hand deliver an application for a regular absentee ballot 
  • Sept. 8: Last day to register to vote for the run-off election (if necessary)
  • Sept. 23: Run-off election (if necessary)

To assist senior adults in the community, the City will host a Polling Location Finder event on July 1 at the Madison Senior Center located at 1329 Browns Ferry Road from 9:45-11AM.

This outreach effort is designed to help seniors easily identify their correct polling location and ensure a smooth voting experience.
