Mayor Battle proposes new $360M budget for 2027 fiscal year

Mayor Tommy Battle presented his proposed budget to the Huntsville City Council Thursday, September 10, a $360 million budget that includes more than $22 million for road resurfacing and maintenance.

Battle said “the budget reinforces Huntsville’s infrastructure while continuing to make the city a more attractive place to work, play and raise a family.”

The fiscal year begins October 1, 2026.

What’s in the new budget?

Governers Traffic 1 — Traffic concerns have been a major topic with Huntsvillians. The new budget addresses several of those concerns. (Hville Blast)

The proposed operating budget for the General Fund FY27 is $360,593,840, which includes $14,788,543 for outside agencies. The Lodging & Liquor Fund also provides $17,015,229 for outside agencies.

Budget highlights include:

New road improvement projects totaling $17.5M consisting of County Line Road, Edinburg Drive, Resolute Way and the design on the next phase of Northern Bypass East of Memorial Parkway
Multimodal transportation project consisting of new greenways and sidewalks totaling $15M
Reinvestment corridors near Research Park, Mill Creek and downtown totaling $18M
Road resurfacing and maintenance totaling over $22.3M
Authorizes an addition of 18 public safety personnel
Multi-year capital plan that provides for a Police precinct, multiple fire stations and library facilities
Improvements and expansions at several parks around the city
Commercial redevelopment along Memorial Parkway
Continued investment in the City’s greenway network
2% cost-of-living adjustment for City employees
