Mazda announces CX-50 will be produced out of Huntsville
Reading time: 2 minutes
Mazda announced three new models coming over the next two years. One of which will be produced in Huntsville. Keep reading for more information.
Coming by 2023
Mazda plans to roll out the CX-50, CX-70 and CX-90 by 2023. Coming first is the CX-50, a mid-size crossover. The CX-50 will join Toyota’s Corolla Cross in Huntsville.
Don’t fret. The CX-50 will not be replacing the CX-5, contrary to popular belief. The CX-50 will join the Mazda lineup as a new addition.
The CX-50 will be revealed in November and production is scheduled to start in January 2022.
You only have to wait one more month to see this brand-new SUV.
Made in Alabama
While the other models will be made into smaller versions specifically for European roads, the CX-50 will be living the American dream. This model will be only available in the United States.
It will come straight from, you guessed it, sweet home Alabama.
Production for the CX-50 will take place at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville. What could be better than a car built in your favorite state? Perhaps a car made right in your city.
The production line
At the Mazda Toyota plant, you can expect 30,000 cars to be produced per year. It is evenly split between Mazda and Toyota cars.
Since this is Rocket City, you can expect at least one space reference. Each production line is named in honor of Huntsville’s contribution to space exploration.
You’ll find the Toyota Corolla Cross on the Apollo production line and the CX-50 will be produced on the Discovery production line.
