Microwave Dave to kick off reopening of The Lumberyard
Reading time: 2 minutes
This year will be the 10th for Microwave Dave Day, a celebration of local musicians, educators and of course- Microwave Dave.
This year’s event will take it back to where it all started, The Lumberyard.
Microwave Dave
Microwave Dave & The Nukes have been performing and preserving the Blues since their formation in 1989.
They’ve since become a staple of North Alabama and gained international recognition.
Microwave Dave is passionate about music and education, for proof just look to the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation, a nonprofit that provides music education and scholarships to students and schools across North Alabama.
In 2015, Mayor Tommy Battle declared Microwave Dave Day to be a city-wide celebration in honor of Dave and his contributions to Huntsville.
This year marks the 10th annual Microwave Dave Day, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet. With over 50 local musicians across 3 stages, the festival will also be going back to their original stomping grounds: The Lumberyard.
The Lumberyard
The Lumberyard has operated in some capacity in Huntsville for about 120 years and hosted the first Microwave Dave Day (MDD) back in 2015.
They closed down in 2021 (fittingly with Microwave Dave playing their last show) with the promise to open again under new owners.
Well we’ve finally got an opening date: October 13
The Lumberyard will be newly renovated just in time for MDD with two performance spaces, a pizzeria and the staple 1920s dining railcar (now known as Camellia).
The venue will be operated by TVG Hospitality, the same group that operated the Orion Ampeathetre.
