Land Trust officials say this project has been years in the making, as the vision for the project dates back nearly 20 years when the Land Trust acquired the property.

“Since officially beginning work on the preserve last October, volunteers have contributed more than 700 hours helping turn this vision into a place our community can explore and enjoy.”

Mill Creek, in addition to providing natural beauty, also holds some historical significance.

The Balch Road Trailhead is home to the historic Gray Cemetery, connecting visitors with the story of the Providence community and those who called this area home more than 200 years ago.

Future phases will expand recreational opportunities throughout the preserve. Beginning in 2027, the Land Trust has recommended development of a second trailhead on the east side of the property, with the potential for up to two additional miles of trails.
