NASA Day of Remembrance to be observed in Huntsville

NASA space centers across the country will observe a day of remembrance for those lost in the pursuit of space exploration this Thursday.
Here in Huntsville, The Marshal Space Flight Center will hold a candle-lighting and wreath-laying ceremony.
What is the NASA Day of Remembrance?
On the fourth Thursday of each year, NASA sets aside a day to commemorate the crews of Apollo 1, Space Shuttle Challenger and Space Shuttle Columbia who tragically lost their lives in the pursuit of knowledge and human exploration.
A town hall will be held on Tuesday, Jan 23 to discuss the history of space safety innovation and the impacts that these crews’ sacrifices have had on the industry.
On Thursday, Jan 25 at 1pmEST, a traditional wreath-laying ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetary at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

How it’s observed in Huntsville
In Huntsville, the Marshal Space Flight Center will hold a candle-lighting and wreath-laying ceremony at 9 AM which will include remarks from the Associate Director, the director of Safety and Mission Assurance and an astronaut.
Six other NASA centers will hold ceremonies across the country as well.
