New annexation plans will put Huntsville in 4 different counties

Huntsville could expand its city limits into four counties if a measure is approved by the City Council tonight.
A proposed annexation involving a little more than 1,000 acres is on the table, that includes parts of Morgan and Marshall counties.
Huntsville annexation proposal

Wiz Kidz and Hollingshead Materials, which operates Smyrna Ready Mix Concrete, petitioned the City of Huntsville for the annexation of 1,013.96 acres south of the Tennessee River.
The property lies primarily along McCutcheon Loop Road in Morgan County, with a smaller portion extending along Vaughn Road in Marshall County.
Huntsville first annexed land south of the Tennessee River in Morgan County in 2018, and already includes Madison and Limestone counties within its city limits. Marshall County would become the city’s fourth.
The petition does not request any city services as part of the annexation. If approved, the ordinance would expand Huntsville’s industrial base and allow the city to regulate the quarry where SRM operates.
Huntsville’s Urban and Economic Development Director, Shane Davis, says the move would also help protect Tennessee River frontage in Morgan County and provide oversight in adjacent residential areas.
SRM has also offered to supply materials to help improve infrastructure within the newly annexed area.
The City Council will consider the annexation request at its regular meeting on Thursday, July 10, at 5:30PM.
