New Century tops U.S. News list of ‘Best High Schools in Alabama’

The prestigious U.S. News & World Report “Best High Schools” list was released today, with a local Huntsville school topping the statewide list.
New Century Technology High School was the top-ranked high school in Alabama, and ranked #131 in the entire country.

New Century Technology High School is best in state
U.S. News ranked nearly 18,000 public high schools, out of more than 27,000 reviewed, by summing their weighted scores across six indicators of school quality:
- College Readiness
- College Curriculum Breadth
- State Assessment Proficiency
- State Assessment Performance
- Underserved Student Performance
- Graduation Rate
The publication’s rankings only include public schools, with schools ranked nationally, statewide, by metro area and by school system.
According to U.S. News, New Century’s rankings include:
- No. 131 in National Rankings
- No. 1 in Alabama High Schools
- No. 1 in Huntsville Metro Area High Schools
- No. 1 in Huntsville City High Schools
The statewide list also included James Clemens High School in the top 10 in Alabama. U.S. News has its top 10 high schools in Alabama listed as such:
- New Century Technology High School (Huntsville City Schools)
- Homewood High School (Homewood City Schools)
- Mountain Brook High School (Mountain Brook City Schools)
- Vestavia Hills High School (Vestavia Hills City Schools)
- Hewitt-Trussville High School (Trussville City Schools)
- Fairhope High School (Baldwin County Public Schools)
- Spain Park High School (Hoover City Schools)
- Oak Mountain High School (Shelby County Schools)
- James Clemens High School (Madison City Schools)
- Arab High School (Arab City Schools)
