What does a new CEO’s first week look really like? For Tina, her top mission was for her family to attend Space Camp to experience the immersive program for herself. The fun week marked an important chapter in starting her journey as the leader of the largest space museum and longest running STEM camp in the world.
Keep reading to get the scoop from Huntsville native and new CEO of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Tina Tucker, on what she’s learned in her first 90 days and what she envisions for the future of the Rocket Center.
Meet Tina Tucker, the new CEO of U.S. Space & Rocket Center

Tina was chosen after a year-long, nationwide search thanks to her impressive leadership career in the aviation industry.
In her previous role as president of a virtual training and simulations company, Tina led development of training experiences for aviation and military professionals. She spearheaded VR technology that made training feel more like a video game—the same tech that is now used in the I4 Space Camp® night vision and parachute simulators!
“That tie between the simulation environments I’ve spent my career in and the immersive learning at the Rocket Center feels like a very natural fit.”

Check out Tina’s favorites:
- Camp/attraction at the Rocket Center: Aviation Challenge + the main atrium
- USSRC event: Biergarten hands down—it’s free to join (food available with purchase) + fun for the whole family!
- Local restaurant: Del Chuco + Domaine South
- Way to spend a day off: Hanging out with her daughter—ideally outdoors, including feeding ducks at Big Spring Park + hiking on Monte Sano
- Hidden gem: Double Helix Trail at HudsonAlpha
If you see Tina at one of her favorite events like Biergarten (every Thursday at 5PM through October), say hi!
First impressions from her first 90 days as CEO

Tina is especially excited to tune in to her inner child and let her energetic, active leadership style thrive in her new role.
Some of her biggest surprises have been:
- The full scope of the Rocket Center’s community impact + collaboration with industry partners
- How much is done in-house, like catering + maintenance
- Ability for instantaneous collaboration among the team
- Everyone’s open-mindedness to a new leader
- Limited time to eat because of her busy schedule!

Tina dedicated her first few weeks to sitting down with every team to understand everyone’s roles, passions and challenges.
“The best leadership advice I’ve received is if you slow down and listen, you can learn a lot.”
“One of my favorite parts is when I get a little bit of downtime, I sneak over to the Davidson Center and ask one of our amazing docents, ‘Hey, I have 20 minutes. Teach me something new.’“

Her previous role has given her a unique perspective to recognize what will engage visitors, what questions to ask and how to decide where to invest resources.
Tina’s hopes for the guest experience

During Tina’s first week on the job, her 10-year-old daughter attended Galaxy Explorers Camp. Then, in September, she attended Family Space Camp with her daughter and husband.
“I learned as much from my daughter as I did on my own. She came home every day telling me space trivia and showing me projects.”

As a mom, Tina understands the importance of investing in the next generation. She says we can expect continued upgrades to youth experiences including the Inspiration4 (I4) Skills Training Complex. 👀
Plus, she hopes all community members visit the museum regularly for a front row seat to Huntsville’s innovation.
“The technology and products being built by our community are constantly changing, and we have the unique opportunity to show those off firsthand.”

Her vision for the future of the Rocket Center: Continued growth + modernization

Tina’s first 30 days were focused on listening—AKA gathering data points and finding trends. Now, her team can start planning for the future.
“As technology evolves, we have to evolve with it. Our team is developing a master plan to move the entire campus forward.”
