New Decatur roadwork projects announced for 2026

The City of Decatur this week released its list of road resurfacing locations for 2026, which includes 25 roads across the city’s five districts.

Mayor Kent Lawrence said maintaining streets remains one of the most visible and important services the city provides. The city uses its annual resurfacing program to make steady progress across the network while continuing to evaluate future needs in every district.

A look at Decatur’s road resurfacing projects

City staff evaluates a range of factors when building the annual resurfacing list, including:

• pavement condition
• traffic volume
• connectivity and network importance
• maintenance history
• coordination with utility or drainage work
• available funding

Here are the streets slated for resurfacing this year:

District 1:

• 12th Ave. NW, from Moulton St. W to 3rd St. NW
• Central Parkway SW, from 8th St. SW to Phillips Ave. SW
• Central Parkway SW, from Phillips Ave. SW to 1st Ave. SW
• Runnymead Ave. SW, from 8th St. SW to Leeann St. SW
• Terrehaute Ave. SW, from Leeann St. SW to 8th St. SW

District 2:

• 8th Ave. NE, from Church St. NE to Market St. NE
• Jackson St. SE, from Maple St. SE to cul-de-sac
• Maple St. SE, from Grant St. SE to Riverview Ave. SE
• Somerville Rd. SE, from 11th St. SE to Flint Rd. SE
• Wilson and 10th Ave. NE intersection

District 3:

• Minor Hill Rd., from Norris Mill Rd. to Joe Davis Dr. SW
