The Huntsville City Council last week approved the re-zoning of land that will become Westmoore Landing, a proposed housing development expected to open in 2027.

The development, a 395-acre, 3,000-unit community modeled after The Village of Providence, sits directly east of I-65 and south of Highway 20 and I-565.

The project has been in the works since the city annexed nearly 400 acres earlier this year near the interchange between I-65 and I-565. The project is being developed by Land Innovations and Rochford Realty & Construction Co., whose representatives say they hope to have the first residents moved in by 2027. However, the complete build-out is expected to take between 10 to 20 years.

The development is expected to include:

  • Up to 3,000 homes
  • Commercial areas
  • Green Spaces
  • Outdoor events spaces
  • Playgrounds
  • Retail/office spaces
