NEW: Huntsville PD earns another advanced accreditation

The Huntsville Police Department received a major accreditation recently, earning its Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies accreditation for the ninth time.

This accreditation is only awarded every four years.

Huntsville PD earns another CALEA accreditation

To achieve advanced accreditation, an agency must demonstrate continued compliance with 460 law enforcement standards. The CALEA Board of Commissioners routinely re-evaluates these standards to help strengthen accountability within the agency and the community.

Huntsville PD was first accredited by CALEA in 1996 and has continued to earn its accreditation every four years as the agency requires. CALEA assessors are granted access to HPD’s policies, procedures, records and personnel as part of the accreditation process.

The CALEA accreditation process

The Advanced Law Enforcement Program is specifically designed for elite organizations striving to demonstrate professional excellence within a comprehensive range of operational and administrative functional responsibilities.

Agencies participating in this program are prepared for the management of life, health and safety issues, ensuring issues ranging from community engagement to sound personnel practices are addressed.
