New leader nominated to head Space Command
Lt. Gen. David Miller has been nominated to lead U.S. Space Command. (U.S. Space Command)

Lt. Gen. David N. Miller Jr. has been nominated by Pres. Donald Trump to lead Space Command. Miller will succeed Gen. Stephen Whiting upon confirmation.

Miller currently serves as the deputy chief of space operations for strategy, plans, programs and requirements at the Pentagon. Read his full bio HERE.

More about Lt. Gen. David Miller

In his current position, Miller is directly responsible to the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Space Operations for the strategies and concepts, requirements, and budget of the United States Space Force.

Miller commissioned in 1993 and is a graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. He has operational experience across space power disciplines and has held a range of operational leadership and staff positions.

No stranger to Alabama, Miller (among his many education milestones) completed multiple programs at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery:

  • 1997 Squadron Officer School
  • 2004 Air Command and Staff College
  • 2006 Master of Airpower Arts and Science, School of Advanced Air and Space Studies
  • 2022 Joint Flag Officer Warfighting Course

His career achievements include:

Space Command making progress on move to Huntsville

Space Command HQ is gradually moving to Redstone Arsenal. (U.S. Space Command)

The headquarters for U.S. Space Command is moving to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville from Colorado Springs, a move that should be complete by the end of 2032

The timeline for employee relocation to Redstone looks like this:

  • 120 employees by the end of 2026
  • 400 employees by the end of 2027
  • 900 employees by the end of 2028
  • 1,000 employees by the end of 2030
  • 1,800 employees by the end of 2032
