NEW: Major expansion coming to Huntsville Hospital
Huntsville Hospital Health System (HHHS) has announced that the Madison Street Tower will receive a major expansion, which is estimated to take 22 months. Construction is expected to begin this fall, resulting in five additional floors and 100 patient rooms.
Read on to learn more about why this project is being set in motion and the positive future impact it will have:
A $150 million expansion expansion to Huntsville Hospital
According to Jeff Samz, HHHS CEO, the local hospital system must continue to grow to keep up with the needs of the region. The five additional floors will be built on top of what is currently the emergency department.
“We’ll also have a brand new neurosciences intensive care unit serving stroke neurosurgical patients from across the Tennessee Valley. We’ll have three additional floors of ICU or medical intensive care or medical surgery space; very flexible rooms that allow patients who need the specialists only available in Huntsville to receive care.”

This expansion will also eliminate the use of double-occupancy hospital rooms at the facility.
What its future impact will look like
The project will not only increase the size of HHHS physically, but it will also increase its economic impact. It already has a $3.3 billion impact on the region’s economy and Samz says it will grow even more.
“This project will also have a substantial impact on the local economy. Not only will we spend $150 million to construct the facility itself, the patient care space being created will add 350 new healthcare jobs to the local economy.”

Samz shares that it is HHHS’s duty to respond with new space and resources to meet the people’s needs, as the region’s leading healthcare provider.
