Three major improvements to the Huntsville International Airport are underway. Aimed at enhancing airport facilities and the passenger experience at HSV, these projects are expected to be completed in about a year.
Here’s what we know about these renovations:
Renovation of the airport main concourse
The $13 million renovation of the main concourse, which is set to be completed in about a year, will increase accessibility with new elevators, escalators and stairs.
This project actually began in April of last year. Contractor Robins & Morton said that to complete the upgrades, temporary ramps were constructed to connect the security exit area to the concourse, maintaining uninterrupted access for travelers to their gates.
Signature Aviation’s private terminal
Work is also underway on the renovation and expansion of Signature Aviation’s private terminal, a fixed-base operator (FBO) facility that will serve private, corporate and government aviation customers.
The 5,000-square-foot renovation and 3,500-square-foot expansion will include a redesigned entrance and elegant, new interior, complete with comfortable lounges and private meeting rooms for travelers. Work is expected to be completed later this year.
Rental car return lot
Robins & Morton is working to convert an existing airport parking lot into a rental car return lot as well. The project will include a new entrance and the addition of two canopies, one for the rental car facility and another to cover a walkway for customers.
The project is scheduled for completion in summer of 2024.
“We are excited about the progress on several upgrades at Huntsville International Airport. These renovations will help create a more seamless, welcoming experience for travelers at the airport voted No. 2 in the 2023 USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards for best small airport. We are thankful for the trust the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority and Signature Aviation has placed in us to deliver these projects.”
Mitch Coley, Robins & Morton division manager
