New 120,000-square-foot school in Hampton Cove moves forward

Huntsville City Schools approved the purchase of 82 acres in the Hampton Cove area for a new school that will accommodate up to 1,000 students.
The Hampton Cove area is one of Huntsville’s fastest growing neighborhoods, and this new school—either an elementary or middle school—has been high on the wish list among the area’s residents.

What we know about the new school in Hampton Cove
The land, located at the intersection of Highway 431 and Old Big Cove Road, was purchased for $3.68 million.
Here’s what we know:
- The building will be approximately 120,000 square feet.
- It will accommodate approximately 1,000 students.
- The school will either be an elementary school or middle school.
- It is expected to open in the 2033 school year.

The new school is part of the system’s 10-year, $600 million capital plan set in motion in 2022.
