New Space Command HQ: a look at what’s coming to Redstone
Reading time: 2 minutes

During a recent relocation update with Huntsville-Madison County civic leaders in Washington, DC, Space Command’s Gen. Stephen Whiting shared a conceptual rendering of the command’s future permanent headquarters at Redstone Arsenal.
While just a preliminary rendering of the facility, the revealing of the renderings comes during an active time for SPACECOMM announcements, as Whiting gave an update just a few weeks ago on the groundbreaking for the new facility and the opening of a temporary facility.

Space Command closer to moving to the Rocket City

The conceptual rendering of the new headquarters is based on a planned 427,000-square-foot facility located on a 64-acre site at Redstone Arsenal, designed to house close to 1,500 employees.
Whiting told the Senate Armed Services Committee in March that the timeline for the facility’s official move to Redstone Arsenal includes a 2031 opening, with a groundbreaking sometime next year.
Whiting also said the number of SPACECOMM personnel in Huntsville would reach about 200 by the end of this year. Those employees will work out of temporary facilities, including a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility set to open at the end of this month.
Whiting said the timeline for the new facility includes five years of construction, with an additional year for moving in personnel.
