New unemployment numbers show Huntsville below state rate

Madison County’s unemployment rates remained below Alabama’s unemployment rates as a whole in June, as the county posted a rate of 2.6%, compared to Alabama’s June rate of 3.2%.

Huntsville, Madison + Athens post low unemployment rates for June

While the state unemployment rate would not be considered “high” by nationwide standards (the national unemployment rate stands at 4.1%), Alabama’s rate is still higher than it was this time last year (2.9%) and two years ago (2.3%).

However, Huntsville has remained below the state average, along with neighboring cities Madison, Athens and Decatur.

Gov. Kay Ivey has pointed to Alabama’s unemployment rate sitting below the national average as “a positive indicator of a generally stable business climate.”
