Phillip Rivers interviews for + withdraws from Buffalo Bills coaching search

Who would have though this time last year that we would be hearing so much about Phillip Rivers? This is a guy who until this past fall had not thrown a pass in the NFL in five years, and was living a fairly low-profile life coaching high school football in Alabama.
But in the last few months, the Athens native has come out of retirement to start three NFL games, retired again and then interviewed for head coaching job in the NFL. That’s quite a lot going on for someone who was not in the news much at all just last summer.
Rivers interviews for + withdraws from Bills coaching search
Rivers reportedly interviewed for the Buffalo Bills head coaching job, which became vacant when Sean McDermott was fired after a loss in the AFC playoffs last weekend. Reports say Rivers interviewed Friday, but then announced this morning that he was withdrawing his name from consideration.
A report from CBS Sports said Rivers indicated that the timing for such a career move was not ideal for him and his family right now.
Before joining the Colts for three games this season, the 44-year-old quarterback last took a snap in the league in 2020, before taking the head coaching job at St. Michael’s Catholic School for the 2021 season. In five seasons, he’s led the Cardinals to a 42-16 record including consecutive 4A semifinal appearances.
