Incase it’s not marked on your calender and circled three times in red ink, Presidents Day is this upcoming Monday, February 16. Seeing how it is a federal holiday, many government offices and entities will be closed. Fortunately, most local restaurants and grocery stores will remain open.

Here’s what’s closed:

  • Federal offices – Closed
  • State offices – Closed
  • Municipal, county offices- Closed
  • Schools – Closed
  • Garbage collection — No garbage collection
  • U.S. Post Offices – Closed, no mail service will run. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered
  • FedEx and UPS – FedEx and UPS will be delivering
  • Banks – Most closed
  • Financial markets – New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed Monday with normal hours resuming Tuesday

Fun fact: Presidents Day is officially designated as “Washington’s Birthday,” but the holiday hasn’t fallen on George Washington’s actual birthday (February 22) since 1971, when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved Presidents Day to always fall on the third Monday of February.
