One of Huntsville’s most popular and unique culinary resources will close for good. An announcement was made this week that gourmet cooking store and classroom Rafael’s Table will close at the end of the month.

Closing with ‘a heavy heart’

Rafael’s Table became so popular at its original space at Lowe Mill that Diaz moved locations to a bigger space on Whitesburg two years ago.

Sadly, a recent health diagnosis has prompted Diaz to close the store.

“Three weeks ago, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Life has a way of shifting our paths in ways we don’t expect. I had to immediately relocate to Nashville to begin treatment at Vanderbilt, and as I now focus on healing and my health, I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close Rafael’s Table.”

Offering cooking supplies, gourmet ingredients and a wide variety cooking classes since it opened in 2021, Rafael’s Table will be missed not only by the culinary community, but all of those who graced its doors. Diaz received an outpouring of support upon her announcement, and dozens of friends and customers responded on social media to her announcement.

“Whenever I make pasta from scratch, as you taught me, I will always think of you and your wonderful shop full of goodies.”

“You have brought so much joy to many. We will miss Rafel’s Table. Get well, Abbe. But most of all…don’t forget…If you drop the handle, take a sip!”

The business will remain open through the end of August, and until then, everything in the store is 50% off. Cooking classes will also continue through the end of the month.

In September, the company’s fixtures and class equipment will be for sale. So, as Diaz said, “If you’ve ever eyed a favorite pan, table or piece of decor—we’d love for those items to find new life in your homes.”

For the remainder of the month, Rafael’s Table will be open Friday and Saturday, 10AM to 5:30PM.
