Redstone Arsenal prepares for new Space Command + FBI facilities
Reading time: 3 minutes

Huntsville is bracing for the arrival of some heavy-hitting arrivals in the near future, especially at Redstone Arsenal. Gen. Stephen Whiting, Commander of U.S. Space Command, addressed the pending move to Redstone during a keynote speech at the annual Redstone Update.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth came to the Rocket City as well last week to unveil the U.S. Space Command sign at the Arsenal, solidifying the DOW’s plans to move the headquarters to Huntscville.
Deputy Assistant FBI Director Kevin Jones also discussed future plans at Redstone last week, which includes increasing the FBI’s personnel at the Arsenal.
What’s new with Space Command

As Space Command establishes its home on Redstone Arsenal, Whiting said that collaboration with local partners will be key to maintaining U.S. strategic advantage.
“U.S. Space Command is excited to be moving to Huntsville and north Alabama, and we commit to do so in a professional, expeditious and efficient manner, while ensuring we fully execute all of our ongoing, vital, real-world missions.”

Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink said the unveiling of the SPACECOM signage was a significant step in the process of moving the headquarters to Huntsville from Colorado Springs.
“Now we are off to the races to get it done. That capability is critical to the security of this nation more than ever. And getting it set up and getting it fully operational is one of my focuses going forward.”

In September, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will move from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, along with approximately 1,400 Space Command employees. This was a plan of Trump’s in his first term, but that decision was reversed when Pres. Joe Biden took office in 2021.
Colorado’s attorney general is suing the Trump administration and seeking a stop-work order on the move, arguing it was politically motivated. Political motivation was cited by Republican lawmakers when Biden reversed Trump’s order for the move.
Whiting was asked about the lawsuit while in Huntsville, but he declined to comment.
FBI training facility at Redstone

Deputy Assistant FBI Director Kevin Jones discussed last week the Bureau’s plans to nearly double its workforce at Redstone by 2030, bringing its total workforce to nearly 4,000.
The FBI is building multiple facilities at the Aesenal:
- Operations 1 Building
- Technology 1 Building
- Innovation Center (a 250,000-square-foot facility with classrooms and training labs)
- Kinetic Cyber Range (a full campus with a hotel, courtroom and ER hospital)
“As an unclassified training environment, we’ll have the opportunity to have state, local, and federal partners train with us in those facilities.”
Kevin Jones, Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI
Until completion of the new facilities, personnel will be stationed at the North Campus of the FBI building.
