Roads now closed for the Pettus Road and Pine Grove Road roundabout in Madison
Reading time: 2 minutes

Construction on a new roundabout located at the intersection of Pine Grove Road and Pettus Road will mean some road closures in Madison in the coming weeks.
As of yesterday, this intersection will be completely closed to all traffic.
What to know about this new roundabout

Currently, Pine Grove Road is stop-controlled while traffic on Pettus Road flows freely. The proposed improvements include constructing a single-lane roundabout at this intersection. To minimize the impact on nearby residential properties, the center of the roundabout will be shifted northwest of the existing intersection.
Here’s more info:
- Road closures will be in effect through October 6.
- The intersection is situated near Legacy Elementary School and is close to several commercial and retail developments, including Publix and Walmart Neighborhood Market.
- Legacy Elementary School will remain accessible from the west side of the closure.
- Pettus Road will be closed to traffic between Douglass Road and Mt. Zion Road.
- The project seeks to improve the T-intersection where Pine Grove Road meets Pettus Road.
- The estimated cost of the project is $1.1 million, provided by the American Rescue Act.
Madison County officials said the roundabout is needed top improve safety conditions at the intersection. During peak traffic times, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up, the intersection experiences heavy congestion, and the roundabout ensures a more balanced distribution of traffic during peak hours, preventing the bottlenecks often caused when one direction of traffic is forced to stop for extended periods of time.
