New gymnastics + martial arts space coming to Oakwood Avenue
Reading time: 3 minutes

A new gymnastics and martial arts training facility is coming to Huntsville. Rocket City Tumbling Academy is set to open on Oakwood Avenue early next year.
Here’s what we know:
Rocket City Tumbling Academy coming soon
The new facility is modeled after the same concept as Matrix Gym, which recently closed. Rocket City Tumbling Academy will be located in the former Walmart Neighborhood Market location at 4226 Oakwood Avenue.
Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate Group, which represented the landlord and facilitated the deal with RCTA, said the gym will not take up the entire space used by Walmart Neighborhood Market, and that spaces are still for lease that would complement the gym.
Who’s behind the Rocket City Tumbling Academy
Rocket City Tumbling Academy was founded by Andrea Bonilla, who was an instructor at Matrix Gym with her husband, Jason. They both opened East Coast Karate, bringing martial arts instruction into the community.
The relationships they forged from both of these ventures have laid the foundation for Rocket City Tumbling. They currently have their martial arts program up and running with fall classes that will be transferring to the new location.
Bonilla said they are interested in doing a soft-launch with the previous Matrix patrons before officially opening at the beginning of 2026 to allow their staff to brush up on their coaching before they open to the public.
“We chose the word ‘academy’ intentionally. Our goal is to create a structured, supportive environment where kids can build strong tumbling skills that carry over into many performance paths, whether it’s dance, cheerleading, martial arts or acrobatics.
Our martial arts program adds life skills like respect, focus, perseverance and self-control. We’re building a space where athletes can thrive—physically, mentally and personally.”

Among the offerings at RCTA will be tumbling classes, divided by skill level, as well as the continuation of East Coast Karate.
Bonilla said these classes will focus on discipline, respect and personal development. They will also offer services for the public including:
- Open gyms
- Birthday parties
- Seasonal camps
- Parents night out
- Potential future workshop courses
