Huntsville’s local chapter of national nonprofit Sleep in Heavenly Peace hosted a bed-building event on Juneteenth where they celebrated building their 1,000th bed since opening just short of two years ago.

What SHP does

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to make sure their mission, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town” is carried out. Their Huntsville chapter started almost two years ago, and has since made a significant impact on the community.

“This is a community problem for kids to be sleeping on the floor and being without beds; so we offer a community solution where people come and work shoulder to shoulder to make a difference in the community’s life”

Mary Ena Heath, SHP Huntsville Chapter President

The need for nonprofits in this community

1,000 beds built is definitely a reason to celebrate. But if anything, it brings to attention the need for our community.

Nonprofits such as SHP are driven to meet these needs, almost solely on volunteerism. It’s amazing what can get done between able-volunteers and a mission to help.

Visit SHP’s website here and stay up to date on the community bed-building events, the next of which is set to take place on Sunday, June 30th at Latham church from 3PM – 5:30PM.
