As the school year comes to a close in the area, spring high school sports are winding down as well — although the race to a championship is still going strong for many schools in the Huntsville metro.
Several area high schools are still alive in their respective sports’ playoffs.
Huntsville-area high schools still alive in state playoffs

At least one local school is still competing for a state championship this year in soccer, baseball or softball.
Here are the local schools still in the hunt for a state championship:
Baseball
- Madison Academy is playing in the semifinals against American Christian (date TBA)
Softball
- Madison Academy (no. 1 seed) plays Randolph County in first round May 13.
- Sparkman (no.1 seed) plays Thompson in the first round May 13.
- Austin plays Tuscaloosa County in the first round May 13.
Girls soccer
- Madison Academy is in the championship against Lee-Scott (TBA)
- Westminster Christian is in the championship against St. Michael
- St. John Paul II is in the championship against St. Paul
- James Clemens is in the semifinals against Vestavia Hills
Boys Soccer
- Grissom is in the semifinals against Oak Mountain
