The Showers Center boasts a wide range of facilities designed to cater to diverse community needs, including an indoor pool, meeting rooms, outdoor walking track, splash pad and basketball courts.

With upgrades coming to the center soon, the city has asked that residents give their thoughts on the future of the center.

“This is an excellent opportunity for stakeholders and patrons of the Showers Center to provide us with valuable feedback on what’s working well and what areas might need improvement. Given that this is one of our busiest and most popular facilities, we are eager to hear from the community and make adjustments based on their insights.”

James Gossett, director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation

The longtime community hub in north Huntsville will undergo a comprehensive assessment to determine needed upgrades in the coming months.

The City hired Nola Van Peursem Architects on a design services contract to review the architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems of the 58,000-square foot facility at 4600 Blue Spring Road.

The assessment will also include 10,000 square feet of ancillary buildings on the campus. The amount of the contract is $35,000 and is for 270 days.

Public meetings like the one scheduled for Aug. 20 are key to future improvements at the Showers Center.

“I’m excited to support this evaluation that will start us on the path toward making this special place even better and one worthy of honoring the late Dr. Richard Showers, Jr. and his legacy of service.”

Devyn Keith, Huntsville City Council

The meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 6PM at the Dr. Richard Showers Rec Center at 4600 Blue Spring Road.
