Chicken wings have long been one of the most popular menu items in the country (especially around here), so choosing the “best” wings involves some deep competition.

That said, Southern Living magazine made that attempt. The publication recently compiled a definitive list of the 20 Best Spots For Chicken Wings In The South, and Cricket’s Burgers & Wings in Madison made the list!

Considering how many choices folks have for wings here in the South, making a “top 100” list would be an honor. But making Southern Living’s top 20 list is huge.

The article’s author, food and lifestyle expert Matt Moore, used “a combination of personal experience, trusted recommendations and award recognition” to compile his list, and visited “dive bars, food trucks, pizza places, barbecue joints and other establishments, both well known and emerging.”

Here’s who made the Southern Living list:

  • Seoulside Wings, Houston, TX
  • Ching’s Hot Wings, Memphis, TN
  • Howard China, Washington, D.C.
  • Local Cue, Greenville, SC
  • The Camp Restaurant, Natchez, MS
  • SAW’s Juke Joint, Birmingham, AL
  • Bayou Hot Wings, New Orleans, LA
  • Noble’s, Nashville, TN
  • Certified Pies, Little Rock, AR
  • Momma’s Mustard, Pickles & BBQ, Louisville, KY
  • Smoke’n Joe Box, Sherwood, AR
  • Nam Phuong, Atlanta, GA
  • Cricket’s, Madison, AL
  • Brother Z’s Wang Shack, Nashville, TN
  • Moosehead Grill, Charlotte, NC–The Local, Atlanta, GA
  • DOMU, Jacksonville, FL
  • Fairley’s Wings & More, Hattiesburg, MS
  • Kajun Kidd Burgers & Wings, Thibodaux, LA
  • Track One, El Paso, TX

Moore praised Cricket’s not only for its food, but also its hospitality.

“Expect no frills, no fuss—just crunchy fried goodness. Although the wings are a touch smaller in size, they are served with plenty of hospitality and have earned a legion of enthusiastic fans.”
