U.S. Space Command is anticipating nearly 1,800 personnel at Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal by the time its headquarters is fully operational in 2032. Until then, employees will come to the Rocket City in waves, with more new employees in temporary offices each year.

On Wednesday, August 19, Col. Raymond Ruscoe of U.S. Space Command addressed a crowd of regional business and civic leaders at the Launch Regional Partnership’s State of the Region meeting, discussing the timeline for the new headquarters at the Arsenal.

Ruscoe said he expects approximately 900 Space Command employees to be stationed in Huntsville by the end of 2028.

Ruscoe said having half of the total expected personnel in Huntsville in the next 18 months reinforces the commitment Space Force has to Huntsville.

He gave an estimated timeline of when personnel would come to the Rocket City, also adding that not all of the personnel from the current Colorado Springs headquarters have opted to move to Alabama.

Ruscoe said Spade Command expects:

  • 120 employees by the end of 2026
  • 400 employees by the end of 2027
  • 900 employees by the end of 2028
  • 1,000 employees by the end of 2030
  • 1,800 employees by the end of 2032

“What’s coming here to North Alabama is the U.S. global power to fight wars above Earth. We have to secure our ability to have that space for our use.”

Ruscoe said personnel will utilize multiple facilities at Redstone until the 900,000-square-foot headquarters is complete. He also said Space Command is hiring for multiple positions right now.
