St. Patrick’s Day Parade: road closures, times + what to know

The Ellen McAnelly Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade, organized by the Irish Society of North Alabama, has been an annual tradition for almost 50 years, and this year’s parade happens this Saturday, March 14. So you’re going to want to know which roads will be closed for the parade and what time this stuff is going on.

What to know about the St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Huntsville Police Department will manage temporary road closures and traffic adjustments to help keep the event safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Road closures will begin at 10AM and the parade will start at 11AM. Streets along the route are expected to reopen by 1PM
Parade Route:
- Begins at Woodson Street and Holmes Avenue
- Travels north on Monroe Street
- Turns south onto Jefferson Street
- Continues east onto South Side Square
- Turns south onto Washington Street
- Travels east on Monroe Street
- Turns north onto Meridian Street
- Ends near Meridian Street and Cleveland Avenue
Drivers who need to travel downtown during the event should plan ahead, allow extra time and consider alternate routes. Parking restrictions may also be in place along portions of the parade route.
HPD asks motorists and pedestrians to follow posted signs, detours and officer directions to help ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.
